Don’t miss out! FOMO! Act now! For a limited time only! When we hear these most of the time, we ignore them and move on to the next thing. Marketing departments have made these phrases so commonplace that most of the time, they don’t register the effect on us like they once did. In all honesty, there are only a few things in this world that I don’t want to miss out on. Most of those center around my wife and two boys. But to make sure I am able to not miss those moments, I have to be prepared to take advantage of the opportunities presented to me. Being prepared financially allows our family the opportunities to not miss out on those moments that when they are gone, they are truly gone forever.

In today’s world, finances touch every part of our daily lives. Just driving to work centers around finance. April is  Financial Literacy Month. We want everyone to have the ability not to miss out when it comes to being educated in financial matters. It all starts with opportunities. Opportunities to learn and familiars yourself and your family with resources and make a plan for your financial future. Most people don’t want to miss out but have no idea how to capture those when they come along. So, where do you start? Find a mentor, friend, relative, or co-worker you know is financially minded. Ask them for help. It will be scary and awkward. Just settle on the fact that it will be that and do it anyway. Your mentor might feel like they don’t have anything to offer, but the truth is you both will be in a better position because you are actively looking at your financial plan. If you don’t want to miss out, improving your financial literacy is the first step in opening up more and more opportunities. Being prepared financially allows you the opportunities to avoid unwanted debt, provides security, and allows more flexibility in our lives.
